Thanks for stopping by.  If you’re new to my website, I’m the author of over thirty romantic fiction novels, and a series of short stories I call  Flirts. I love to tell a story that sometimes makes you laugh, sometimes makes you cry, often has a surprise or two, but always ends happily ever after.

I live in the Dallas area with my husband, a rescued German Shepherd who believes himself to be the neighborhood goodwill ambassador (the German Shepherd, not my hubby),  a fifty-pound American Pit Bull who is convinced he's a lapdog.  Occasionally I get to puppysit my Golden Retriever  grandpuppy.  All dutifully sit at my feet as I write my next story.

So come on in, explore my pages, and see what's in store for you!

Celebrating Mom!

Good morning!

I hope you had a wonderful week and that all mothers had the day they deserved yesterday!

For me, Sunday was a work day.  This last week has been a hard push to get the last details done on Honeymoon for Four and that meant working sixteen hour days this week including Mother’s Day. We will however be doing a three generation celebration next weekend when my daughter is in town! Looking forward to that.

We had a bit of a scare with my mom. That woman is strong-willed, headstrong, whatever word you choose. She raised me alone in an era when that wasn’t the norm. There were times in my life where she worked two jobs to keep me living in a nice apartment and in good schools. She was the mother every kid deserves to have on their team.

Well that determination survives the deterioration of her mind with dementia. They expect her to have Alzheimer’s, so we’re preparing, but for now she’s healthy as a horse and stubborn as a mule!  She loves her independence and we have been blessed to find help to keep her in her own home, but Saturday the help took the afternoon off and Mom was up like a shot to get dressed and drive herself to go shopping. Sigh.  Needless to say at 86 with dementia she has no business behind the wheel of a car anymore but is aware enough to not want her car sold.

After Mom’s hospital stay during the great Texas freeze (not sure if I made that up!) we were able to install cameras in the main rooms to make sure she’s okay all the time. This of course is how we knew her intent. Bless my husband who was working hard in the yard, he grabbed his keys and hurried over to stop her and then took her shopping and told me she was so upset (I explained rather sternly she’s not allowed to drive anymore –again.) that he took her for ice cream afterwards. That man is my mother’s greatest reward for all she’s done in her life for me and everyone else she loves!

Sharing a few photos of my mother – she really is still something else!

Do you have any fun mother stories to share?

Take care,
CK

I hope she’s still able to recognize how much she’s loved!!

Oh yes Leslie. That's the hard part - she is so intact for so much but she can not process anything new. and can only remember things that bother her - which is sad and we just don't know when she's going to be somewhat alert and when she's going to be confused.

For instance at a family gathering with out of town cousins, mom cut a slice of pumpkin pie. she loves it. Then she walked into the kitchen and said ooh I love pumpkin pie. had another - my cousin teased her on the third slice: Had enough auntie? By the time she'd eaten the whole pie save one slice back to back my cousin came into the living room and asked - do you think she comes in ,sees the pie, and forgot she's already had a piece? I answered - probably. So that's the sort of thing that's difficult, we are blessed that she knows who every one of her family members is by face. Though she often thinks she's mad at someone (usually me) for something she has imagined they did not what they really did. All in all - she's still an entertaining lady for most folks!

It is so hard on everyone when dementia is the diagnosis. My mom suffered a regressive form but she held on to the car until the day she could not remember how to get home. She spent hours in the Walgreen's lot. Mom made it home, and gave my brother her keys. I am glad she did it on her own accord.
The cameras are a great idea, very safe.Your hubs is a wonderful guy to treat your mom with such care!💗You are in my prayers.

So far mom remembers the familiar - so she goes the same small street route everywhere - she can't learn anything new anymore and though the odds are she'll still get there and back safely the risk is to great. The hardest part is she still believes her memory is fine and we're just treating her like an old lady- and she's smart and sneaky so that doesn't help, but we are blessed that she knows who everyone is and enjoys her great grandson!
