Thanks for stopping by.  If you’re new to my website, I’m the author of over thirty romantic fiction novels, and a series of short stories I call  Flirts. I love to tell a story that sometimes makes you laugh, sometimes makes you cry, often has a surprise or two, but always ends happily ever after.

I live in the Dallas area with my husband, a rescued German Shepherd who believes himself to be the neighborhood goodwill ambassador (the German Shepherd, not my hubby),  a fifty-pound American Pit Bull who is convinced he's a lapdog.  Occasionally I get to puppysit my Golden Retriever  grandpuppy.  All dutifully sit at my feet as I write my next story.

So come on in, explore my pages, and see what's in store for you!

Happy Anniversary!

I was flabbergasted last week to learn that I have been writing these blogs for a whole year!  Oh my heavens!  Time goes by so darn fast. It’s been great reaching out to everyone and sharing tidbits of life in the Keniston home.

Now that we’re a year in – what is it you like me sharing? Are you happy with things the way they are? Anything I can do to make next year even better?

I will share that I’m half way through Honeymoon for Five. Books like this is when I wish life wasn’t so modern. Cell phones, internet and other things make story telling a little challenging some days, but I’m doing the best I can!

Some of you know that a few years ago I was diagnosed with heart disease after having had what’s called a silent heart attack. I’ve been feeling pretty healthy thanks to a few changes and supplements, but this last week was another story.  Apparently my mom’s alzheimer’s is proving to be a powerful stressor. I’m enormously blessed to have excellent support from my family. My hubby has a better personality for letting the things my mother does roll off his back. I on the other hand get really upset when she does crazy things.  And they’re weird sneaky things. For instance, for some reason she got it in her head that she doesn’t want anyone using the garbage disposal. So she cut up the rubber drain stoppers and told my cousin who lives with mom that the plumber came and said it’s broken and you can’t use it anymore.  My husband thinks it’s amazingly clever and funny and I had to take a few days off to try and relax.  Just in case my cardiologist wante me to have a new stress test in a couple of weeks. I’m hopeful that it will be improved from my last one a couple of years ago.

On the good news side – I am on week three of my strict diet of only lean meats and veggies. I had to say goodbye to all sugar, dairy (oh how I miss my cheese!), wheat carbs, and fats (yeah I miss my butter too!).  But it’s paying off as I’m down ten pounds. The interesting thing is that after a few days I wasn’t nearly as hungry which is making it a lot easier than I expected.  If I can lose ten more pounds I’ll be thrilled.

Just for the fun of it – here’s a photo of me back in the day of high hair and pant suits!  The painting on the left was done by my mom, she loves clowns. I’m guessing I was probably around twelve at the time give or take a year! No idea what I was dressed up for, but I was definitely young!

Chris, I'm enjoying these blogs and getting to know you a bit better as well as your writing process and books. I too had a "silent" heart attack - but mine was 23 years ago. Yes I was a youngster. Actually a mom of 4 kids, ages 15, almost-13, almost-9, and 7. It's really amazing the damage real life stress does to a person and their heart.

Hang in there and try to not let you mother get to you. I've been there, not with alzheimer but it was still difficult. Let's just say, I was the one next to her bed, holding her hand when she died six years ago.

I'm impressed with your diet and all you gave up. Mine is a bit different, but a lot did change. It's easier now to substitute sugar, oil, etc than it was when I first started. Although, my kids still like my applesauce substitution for oil in my baking.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

I like reading when folks ramble. It was a shock to discover I'd had a heart attack and didn't know it but this business is chock full of deadlines and stressors - then you have real life in an ever more complicated world and here we are.

I'm glad you've enjoyed the blogs - I wish I could reach more folks away from facebook - that site is so often toxic.

Hugs on your mom. When my uncle passed a few years back it was my mom who held his hand and sang to him. I'm not looking forward to that day. But it's so hard dealing with a woman who is changing so dramatically.

The thing that no one tells you about alzheimers is the in between. It's not all about forgetting things and people, it's odd behaviors and delusions that we have to deal with while they're still physically fit. They don't just sit in a chair and zone out - they get up and move and do things that make no sense. always a challenge.

time to go back to work!

thanks for commenting!
